Every trait in Crusader Kings III, searchable by name or effect and filterable by category. Traits shape a character's stats, opinion modifiers, and behaviour — and for personality traits, their cost value determines whether acting in character reduces or adds stress. Looking to add or remove a trait with the console? See the trait IDs list for the exact command strings.
Traits fall into several kinds. Personality traits reflect a character's nature and carry a cost value — acting against a trait generates stress, so a Brave character forced into cowardice suffers for it. Congenital traits like Beautiful or Intelligent are inherited through the genetics system and passed to children. Faith traits mark virtues and sins that generate piety and same-faith opinion. Education traits, set by a child's guardian and upbringing, determine a character's core competence and come in five levels. Some traits can be added or edited through the ruler designer or, in a debug session, the console.
The most important thing to understand about personality traits is the stress system they drive. Each personality trait pushes a character toward certain choices; taking an action that contradicts a trait adds stress, while acting in line with it can relieve stress. This is why matching your playstyle to your ruler's traits matters — fighting a character's nature is a slow tax on their mental health. When designing a ruler or choosing an heir's education, the traits you end up with shape which decisions will feel natural and which will cost you.
